The Altona Clinic has been a victim of a Ransomware attack on the 26th of February 2021. This was despite having recommended security including an up-to-date firewall and antivirus software.
The proper authorities have been notified and we have been working diligently with IT specialists to re-establish our networks and reobtain access to our information. At this time, we cannot confirm whether patient information has been compromised, but we are advised by two separate IT specialists that, based on a number of factors, this is unlikely and that the purpose of the attack was most likely to lock the information rather than to access the patient records.
Unfortunately, at this time, it appears we have lost access to all visits that occurred on the 25th of February 2021. We are asking all patients who had appointments that day to call the clinic to book a return appointment so that we can ensure that all medical needs are met.
We want to assure our patients that Altona Clinic takes the storage of your health information very seriously and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that this has caused. We have been advised that our computers are once again safe and we re-opened on March 3, 2021.
